My passion for clay began around the age of eleven when I fired my first pots at Llangefni Secondary School here on Anglesey. At sixteen, I went to Wrexham College of Art and completed a two year course in studio pottery and learned to throw clay.

In 1983 I went to Cumbria College of Art where I was taught by Jim Malone and Mike Dodd, learning the finer points of throwing, kiln building, geology and glaze technology.

After college I worked in several potteries around Britain and Ireland before returning to Anglesey to realise my dream of setting up my own pottery.

I make a range of highly individual earthenware pots which are fired to 1100 C. in the Caternary Arched Kiln that I designed and built myself.

The kiln is fired up using oil, but wood and salt are also used at the end to get the amazing range of colours and hues, from peach to black. I throw pots weighing up to 50lbs on a continental kick wheel; the larger pots are made in two or three individual pieces.

As well as the larger pieces, I also make individual glazed slipware pieces, inspired by traditional 18th century Buckley pots and other country potteries.
